Bali 2018 Part 1; The Nitty Gritty

So you want to be like me, act, talk and walk like me? Then follow meeeeee...
Ah, fellow wanderer I see you've followed me down the rabbit hole.

First off, this is not a sponsored post. I wish it was though, wish I could get paid like that, wish it so badly. But I'm not pretty enough to be an instagram model. So it was 5 years of medical school and now a lifetime of work for me. Ok, enough ranting...

Accomodation:
Stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel by Kuta Beach, really convenient to get to the beach, and near the surf school. Was about 220 SGD per night.

Rooms were just the standard cookie cutter rooms. Pool is amazing, a little pricey for Bali, but the location and pool made up for it.

Not sure why I took this in black and white, pretending to be deep I guess

Oh and it's great if you are travelling with kids, it's got a big kiddy pool playground that they won't let me try, and a slide at another corner of the pool complex that they don't let me ride, and finally a games room that they won't let me in.

I booked it through agoda, had the best price, here. We used shopback as well for additional discount. If you've never tried that before, it's great, basically give you rebates if you go to online shops through them. Got a referral code here if you want it.

Food:

1. Warung Babi Guling Men Gede
This is the one I keep talking about, the one I had on the first day. This is the one you should go to.
Cheap eat at about 2-3 SGD, depending on how much crispy pork skin you want to stuff your face with.

2. Fat Chow
The one with the little sprinkles of heaven. Recommend you get a rice dish so you can sprinkle those decadent crumbly things. That dish pictured is about 7 SGD if I remember correctly, so that should give you an idea on the price range.

Here it is!

3. Pork Star
The one with the western style kind of pork belly and the bacon wrapped mozzarella.
It's a little out of the way so I took a cab there, well worth the trip, from Kuta it's about 20 min, mainly due to traffic. My most expensive meal in Bali, worked out to be about 15-20 SGD per person.

4. Potato Head Bali
This one every one knows about, but just in case you don't...
It's famous for it's burger but I didn't get to try it this time.
Still, a cool place to just hang and have a drink

Pretty famous, so just google it for location I guess, the cabbie will surely know.

Activities:

1. Surfing
If you've never been surfing before, Kuta beach is a pretty good place to start. The waves aren't very intimidating, and the waters are pretty shallow and safe.

I used Odyssey's Surf School, pricing seemed similar to other surf schools that can be found online.
The beaches have different groups offering lessons as well.
Honestly after the first 15 mins of instruction on the beach, not much coaching after that. More like safety officers.

85 USD for 2 half day lessons.

2. Waterbom
This is their famous waterpark. I got the tickets online before going.Would recommend using Klook for a discounted ticket, here it is, for 27 USD. I've got a referral link if you want it. Klook is also compatible with shopback.

Misc tips:
Bali is a pretty big island, and it's attractions are actually quite spread around.
Cabbing is not very expensive, but it's SEA and I'm always wary if they don't use a meter. Make sure you take the blue cabs and insist on metered fare. Grab and Uber is not gonna help because of the taxi mafia, local businesses and hotels won't let you Uber or Grab, you'll see signs to that effect everywhere.

Traffic is pretty shit, so just getting up from Kuta to Seminyak is gonna take an hour, so plan accordingly.

For airport transfers, I made prior arrangements, again with Klook, here. Hotel arrangements are gonna be pretty expensive.
