Bali 2018 Part 2; Ubud
And straight on to heaven...
This is part 2 of the Bali trip, coming up from Kuta.
We got a private car hire to drive us from Kuta to Ubud, and make various stops.
We made a detour to Tegenungan Waterfall and Bali's famed Tegalland Rice Terrace.
First up the waterfall...
The waters were muddy, the shores were muddy, the trail was muddy.
It was also hot.
Also crowded; but honestly I'm not sure I would have liked it any better if it was less crowded.
The whole experience was so spectacularly underwhelming this was the only picture taken of the fall.
Along the route there was also a little nest, kinda like a knockoff of the ones at the bali swing
Verdict: Don't bother. Time taken to travel there could have been better spent lazing in the resort.
Next stop: Rice terrace.
Had lunch at a tourist trap. What did you expect?
Not quite like instagram.
The whole experience could only generously be described as leaving much to be desired. There's also this annoying "donation- ticket" thing that just doesn't sit well with the kiasu Singaporean in me
We made it to the resort in the late afternoon which is the saving grace of the day.
We had wanted to book the Hanging Gardens, but it was sold out so we settled for Komaneka at Tanggayuda, which turned out great.
The villa we got was pretty awesome, got a nice little infinity pool attached with a cabana/ pavilion. The bathroom was huge, with a big stone bathtub.
Would highly recommend it, got a secluded/ exclusive feel. Stay was really peaceful.
We actually made arrangements to rent a float. Sadly the float as you can see is a little too big, or the pool is a little too small.
For dinner we drove to Naughty Nuri's Warung which is a barbecue place. We had the ribs and sausages. Ribs were juicy and smoky; flavours were bold but not overpowering.
So nice we had it twice. When we didn't have the driver anymore, we called the guy collecting the float to help us takeaway for a generous tip and he gracefully accomodated.
Day 2:
The downside of the villa is that it's away from Ubud town but they've got shuttles to bring you there and back at about 2 hourly intervals. So 2 hours was all we spent in Ubud.
Walked around mainly looking for babi guling. Unfortunately they were having some festival preparations so everywhere was closed. Had to settle for their bebek bengil (their famed roast duck). It was decent, but not spectacular.
Ubud was a little rushed because we wanted to spend more of our last day lounging by the pool.
Spent the rest of the day in the resort, savoring every last bit of the resort before the inevitable journey back home.

Read on for the nitty gritty:
I won't really touch on the fall or rice terraces, easily googled, the drivers would definitely know where.
Accomodation:
Komaneka at Tanggayuda
Would highly recommend it. It's great value for money, about 200 USD a night. Only problem is location, but the best resorts are all hidden in the mountains anyway.
Would recommend booking through Agoda, here, and for additional savings to use Shopback for rebates.
Food:
Naughty Nuri's Warung
Worth the effort to get there. It's crowded, and there is no maitre d' to serve you, so you can't just wait to be seated. You gotta go hunt for your seats. Singaporeans shouldn't have a problem, but I saw a caucasian couple stand for 30 minutes in a non existent queue waiting to be seated.
Bebek Bengil
Supposedly quite famous and popular, but I don't think it was worth the effort to get it. But you might be interested so...
Didn't get the try the babi guling from Ibu Oka, will try it next time I suppose
Misc:
I got the private car hire and the float rental from Klook.
The private car hire was about 35 USD for 10 hours, which I thought was really good value, gets you to the hard to reach places like the falls and rice terraces, and you get to transfer hotel to hotel, and keep your luggage in the boot.
The float rentals is just a super cute add on, without having to lug it from home and blow it up at the resort. About 5 USD a day. Super convenient, they deliver it to you and pump it up.

Again, it works with Shopback for additional rebates

View from our breakfast table, the lush country. Much better view than the rice terraces if you ask me. |
